The Use of AI in the Google Search Engine

    businesstechBy businesstechApril 16, 2026No Comments3 Mins Read

The use of AI (artificial intelligence) in the Google search engine facilitates the search for information on the web. It will enable us to find the information we are looking for with greater precision and speed, thanks to increasingly natural language.

During a recent event dedicated to its search engine, the American company announced a series of new features made possible by the use of the MUM model.

    What is MUM?

This refers to the “Unified Multitasking Model,” which enables a better understanding of information. It will pave the way for a series of changes within the search engine.

The goal is to provide more detailed and contextualized answers, as well as a richer and more in-depth search experience.

Google seeks to offer us alternative methods for conducting searches—going beyond the traditional method of typing a query into the search bar’s text field.

Furthermore, the company aims to boost the usage of its image recognition software, Google Lens, which it will integrate into the Google app for iOS as well as the Chrome browser for laptops.

    Main News And Changes

    Multimodal Search

MUM enables a new form of visual search. You can now include text in your visual searches. By using an image, we can ask questions related to what we see. Consequently, context becomes much more important in these new types of searches.

Google provides a few examples to help better understand this concept. In the first example, we see how, starting from an image of a printed T-shirt, we can search for items—such as socks—that match that T-shirt.

Secondly, by taking a photo of a broken bicycle part, we can directly search for instructions on how to repair it; the search engine will recognize the part in need of repair and identify the necessary steps to fix it. This will make it easier to find the precise moment in a video where the repair process is explained.

    Redesigned Search Page

Leveraging advancements in AI will also contribute to this redesign. The goal is to make searches more natural and intuitive.

A new section titled “Things to know” will appear on the search results page.

Depending on the subject of our search, topics related to our main query—which are likely to be of interest to us—will be presented to us.

Subsequently, the “Refine this search” and “Expand this search” sections will appear, offering related search terms or suggestions to help us find what we are looking for.

    Better Results in Video

It is now possible to obtain search results for key moments within a video—such as the decisive goal in a football match or the steps of a recipe.

However, Google aims to go even further: identifying related topics within the video and providing links to delve deeper into the subject and continue learning.

Artificial intelligence can recommend content likely to interest you, even if those topics are not explicitly mentioned in the video.

Google Shopping – Google Search Engine

This shopping tool will also offer updates, some of which will initially be available only in the United States.

In particular, it will make it easier to find clothing similar to items already viewed, or available in different colors. It will also indicate product availability in nearby stores.

According to Google, all these new features aim to help users find answers to their questions and spark new inquiries during their searches.
